My ceiling fan no longer starts: the 5-minute diagnosis before calling support
Published on ·4 min read

The fan no longer responds. You press the remote, nothing. The first reaction is to imagine the worst, a dead motor and a unit to replace. In fact the great majority of faults are solved in five minutes, with no tool, and without climbing the stepladder.
This article follows the order from most likely to rarest. At each step, a simple test, and what the result means. At the end, when you really need to contact after-sales support, and what to send them to be helped fast.
Step 1: the wall switch and power supply
It seems obvious, and it is fault number one. A ceiling fan with remote is powered through the ceiling light's wall switch: if someone turned it off, the remote can do nothing, the receiver is no longer powered. Check that the wall switch is in the on position. If the fan has an LED module, it should light from the remote once the wall switch is on.
Second check, at the electrical panel: the lighting circuit breaker has not tripped. If it has, reset it once. If it trips again immediately, there is a short circuit, at the fan or elsewhere on the circuit: do not reset a third time, and go to the support section.
Step 2: the remote and its battery
If power is fine, the remote is the next suspect. Its battery wears out in one to two years, and a weak battery gives misleading symptoms: the fan responds up close but not from the sofa, or every other command gets through. Replace the battery with a new one of the same format, checking orientation. A dropped remote may also have a battery shifted in its compartment.
Quick test: bring the remote within a metre of the fan and press the light command. If the LED lights, the remote works and so does the receiver; the earlier problem came from range, so from the battery. If nothing happens with a new battery, move on to pairing.
- ·New battery, correct orientation
- ·Test within a metre of the fan on the light command
- ·Normal range: 6 to 8 m without metal obstacle

The Boréal 107
Retractable blades · Ø 107 cm · LED ceiling light & silent fan
- ✓Retractable blades: invisible when off, nobody guesses it's a fan
- ✓Sleep with windows closed, 30 dB, quieter than a whisper
- ✓Integrated LED 2700K → 6000K, dimmable: replaces your ceiling light
Step 3: pairing remote and receiver
After a power cut or a battery change, some receivers lose pairing with their remote. The symptom: new battery, power fine, no response. The pairing procedure is in the manual, attached to the order confirmation. The principle is almost always the same: cut the wall power, restore it, and within 30 seconds hold a specific remote button until the confirmation signal.
If a second fan is installed in a neighbouring room, also check that the two remotes do not control the same unit: two receivers paired to the same remote respond together, and a remote may seem to do nothing because it is controlling the other room.
Step 4: symptoms that call for support
Three signs indicate an electrical or mechanical problem, not to be forced. A motor humming without the blades turning: do not leave it powered, cut the wall switch. An LED blinking or permanently at half power: LED module or driver at fault. A rubbing noise or a vibration that appeared suddenly: a blade may have shifted or a screw loosened, which is checked at standstill, stepladder secured.
To be helped fast, send support three things: the order number, a description of the symptom with the steps already checked, and a photo or short video of the problem. The Boréal 107 is guaranteed 2 years with support in Europe: a faulty remote, receiver or LED module is replaced without returning the whole unit. Most exchanges are settled in a few days.
Wall switch, breaker, battery, pairing: four five-minute checks that solve most faults without a tool. Humming motor, blinking LED or new vibration: switch off and write to support with a photo. Under the 2-year warranty, the faulty part is exchanged from Europe, without returning the fan.
Frequently asked questions
The fan does not respond to the remote, what to check first?+
The wall switch, which powers the receiver: if it is off, the remote can do nothing. Then the remote's battery, then pairing, whose procedure is in the manual.
The motor hums but the blades do not turn, what to do?+
Cut the wall switch immediately and do not force it. A motor humming without turning signals an electrical problem or a mechanical block. Contact support with a video of the symptom: under warranty, the part is exchanged.
Must the whole fan be returned for a fault under warranty?+
No. With support in Europe, a remote, receiver or LED module is replaced by part exchange, after an email with the order number and a photo or video of the problem.
