Buying a ceiling fan online: delivery, returns and warranty, what to check before paying
Published on ·4 min read

A ceiling fan is almost always bought online, and often from a seller you do not know. The product may be good; what makes the difference when something goes wrong is what happens after payment: when the parcel arrives, in what state, and if something is off, who handles it.
This article reviews the four points to check before paying, recalls what European law guarantees whatever the seller, and details what SEY Maison applies, so the comparison is possible.
Delivery time: an honest range
A 5 kg parcel does not ship in 24 hours from a distant warehouse. A seller showing 48 h delivery without saying where the parcel leaves from is preparing a disappointment. An honest lead time is a range that includes preparation and transport: for the Boréal 107, 6 to 10 working days, with a tracking number emailed at dispatch.
What counts more than speed: tracking, and the reaction in case of damage. A fan is a fragile object, with blades and an LED housing. A tracked parcel means that in case of transport damage, the seller has what it needs to handle the dispute with the carrier. At SEY Maison, a damaged parcel is reported within 72 hours with photos, after noting reservations with the courier, for priority handling. Check any seller's terms of sale, and failing that, ask before ordering.
Returns: 14 days, but on what conditions
The European directive gives 14 days from receipt to withdraw without reason on any distance purchase. That right is not negotiable. What the seller decides, however: who pays the return, whether the product must be in its original packaging, and how fast the refund arrives. The law requires 14 days after receiving the return; some sellers take twice that.
At SEY Maison, the return is notified within 14 days of receipt, product not installed, complete, in its original packaging, return costs borne by the customer. The refund is made within 14 days after receipt and inspection. A general tip: keep the box and protections for about two weeks after receipt, and inspect the unit on the floor before fitting it to the ceiling, since an installed or wired product is no longer taken back.
- ·14 days of withdrawal: mandatory in Europe
- ·Return in original packaging: requested by most sellers
- ·Refund: 14 days maximum after receipt of the return

Warranty: 2 years, but support where?
The legal conformity warranty is two years in the European Union, for any seller selling to a European consumer. So it is not the duration that sets offers apart, it is where the warranty is exercised. A seller outside Europe may ask you to ship the unit back at your expense to the other side of the world, with a delay of several months. The warranty exists, but it is useless.
The Boréal 107 is guaranteed 2 years with after-sales service in Europe. Concretely: a faulty motor, remote or LED module is replaced without returning the whole unit, on a simple email exchange with a photo or video of the fault. Support is reachable in French, English and German. That is what to ask any seller: where is support, and how does a part exchange work.
The seller: three reassuring signs
Before paying, three two-minute checks. A physical address and a company identity in the legal notice. A contact channel that answers: email, form or chat, with a stated response time. Readable terms of sale, in your language, where lead time, return and warranty are written in plain words rather than a vague table.
These three signs do not guarantee a perfect product, but they guarantee someone to talk to. A fan 20 euros cheaper from a seller with no address or support costs more at the first problem. Interest-free payment in three instalments, the manual attached to the order confirmation and a human email when you have a question are part of the price, not an extra.
Lead time as a range with tracking, damaged parcel reported within 72 h, 14-day return, 2-year warranty with support in Europe, an identified and reachable seller. Those five lines are worth more than a discount. The Boréal 107 is delivered in 6 to 10 working days, returnable for 14 days, guaranteed 2 years with parts exchanged from Europe, and payable in three interest-free instalments.
Frequently asked questions
What is the withdrawal period for an online purchase in Europe?+
14 days from receipt, with no need to justify, on any distance purchase. The seller refunds at most 14 days after receiving the return. What varies by seller: who pays the return and the original packaging requirement.
Is the 2-year warranty mandatory?+
Yes, it is the legal conformity warranty in the European Union. The useful question is not the duration but where support is: support in Europe exchanges a part in a few days, support outside Europe may require a full return at your expense.
What to do if the fan arrives damaged?+
Note precise reservations with the courier on delivery, photograph the parcel and the product before any installation, and notify the seller within 72 hours with the photos. The seller then handles the carrier dispute and sends a product or a part.
