Haussmann apartments suffer in summer: large street-facing windows, stone mass that releases heat late into the night, and almost never air conditioning, refused by the co-ownership or forbidden on the façade. Yet they hold the winning card: ceiling height.
This guide answers the question that stops most owners: how to fit a ceiling fan between the mouldings and the rose without damaging the décor, and which model looks like it has always belonged.
Why Haussmann apartments are made for ceiling fans
Under a standard 2.50 m ceiling you choose flush-mount fans out of constraint; under 3 m you choose freely. The airflow has room to establish, blades turn far above heads, and the room's full volume is moved at slow speed, hence in silence.
Moving air lowers perceived temperature by 3 to 4°C: at an actual 28°C in August, the living room feels like 24-25°C. It is the only summer-comfort solution requiring no outdoor unit, no co-ownership approval, no façade work. In winter, reverse mode returns the heat stratified under the high ceiling back to floor level.
Ceiling rose and mouldings: installing without damage
The central rose is an invitation, not an obstacle: it almost always marks the chandelier's power supply, so the fan connects in 30 minutes with no chasing and no impact on the surrounding mouldings.
The one point of vigilance is structural: a rotating fan must never hang from plaster alone. It anchors to the ceiling structure, a joist or through-support, via the centre of the rose. What mounting height with 3-metre ceilings?
Installers' rule: blades should turn between 2.10 and 2.40 m from the floor. Flush-mounted under a Haussmann ceiling, the fan sits too high and the flow fades before reaching the living zone. The downrod is therefore the key part in grand volumes, lowering the motor into the room exactly as a chandelier chain once did.

Which style respects the character, and what about the light?
Do not look for a fan that 'disappears', white plastic clashes precisely because it does not belong. Choose an object from a compatible era instead: black or nickel body, real wood blades, a retro line contemporary with the buildings themselves.
